About Us

Plainwell First United Methodist Church is a vibrant community of faith seeking to love God with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

We welcome all, including believers, seekers, skeptics, sinners and saints. We belong to the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. We are also a member of the Reconciling Ministries Network.

Our Mission: To engage people to worship Jesus Christ and love unconditionally to bring wholeness to the world.

Our Vision: All are welcomed and belong.

Our Covenant: At First United Methodist Church of Plainwell, we are committed to building a faithful community of trust, rooted in prayer and scripture. To this goal, we agree to treat one another with mutual respect, understanding, and acceptance; loving and valuing one another as Christ loves and values us. We will listen to each other, communicating opening and honestly. Recognizing our human fallibility, we will create a community of mutual accountability and forgiveness.

Our Welcoming Statement: Plainwell First United Methodist Church affirms that all people are created in the image of God, and, as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of our church, as we journey toward reconciliation through Christ. Plainwell First United Methodist Church is called to the ministry of reconciliation.

We embrace as a gift the diversity of our world. We recognize and affirm our human family’s diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, family structure, marital status, faith history, economic status, physical and mental ability, and education.

We recognize that there are differences among us but believe that we can love alike, even though we may not think alike. We proclaim this statement of welcome to all who have known the pain of exclusion or discrimination in the church and society. We invite all people to join us in our faith journey toward greater love, understanding, and mutual respect.
